Vintage 1970s VEB Torgau POLDI stoneware pitcher/vase. The VEB Torgau stoneware factory originated as a Villeroy & Boch site in 1926, was nationalized in 1948, and became the state-owned VEB Steingutwerk Torgau during the East German era. It produced various tableware and sanitary ceramics. After the reunification of Germany, the factory was returned to Villeroy & Boch ownership in 1990
To find this lovely pitcher in the United States is rare as it was not intended for export. It is made of a beautiful, heavy, durable stoneware, the shape is called Poldi and they were sold in many different patterns. Our pitcher has a brown speckle glaze, a floral motif and dark brown trim, it measures 5 1/2”tall and has a 3 1/2” diameter at its widest. It is marked with the Torgau stamp, and DDR (GDR).
This coffee pot is in exceptional vintage condition, it appears rarely if ever used. No chips, no crack, no scratches or wear.
